Welcome to Unbordered

A new magazine by and for the American emigrant.  As the far right rises in the United States, more and more of us are being pushed to the margins—and beyond them. Unbordered is a space for those of us who’ve crossed borders, left home, or found ourselves redefined by distance.

We look to publish art, essays, poetry, and political commentary that explore what it means to leave—and what it means to begin again. We’re interested in the in-between, the unresolved, the complicated. We’re not here to romanticize exile. We’re here to document it.

Are you a writer, poet, or artist that has left the U.S.? Did you cross a border looking for safety, autonomy, breath?

For our inaugural issue, we’re seeking stories from American emigrants: those who’ve left in response to political, economic, social, or personal rupture. Whether you fled rising fascism, sought gender-affirming care, escaped burnout, or simply knew you couldn’t survive the version of “freedom” being offered, we want to hear from you.

We welcome essays, photo series, illustrations and poems as well as personal and political narratives from immigrants, queer travelers, cultural exiles, and those forging a life beyond the U.S. empire. Help us shape a magazine that reflects the real experience of leaving: the grief, the growth, the contradictions, and the stubborn hope of building something new.

Be part of the spark. Submit your work and become a foundational voice in our first issue.
